You may have an outstanding debt you do not know about…
It’s true. None of us like being in debt. Some of us deplore debt. But there is one debt that is far worse than any other. Our SIN debt. (This blog IS called frugal CHRISTIAN living…how could I possibly NOT bring this up??) 🙂
We owe God big time. He is, after all, completely Holy, Righteous, and Creator of all things. When we sin, it is like spitting right in His face. Or as one friend put it, “It’s like you gave God the finger”.
Don’t think you’ve really offended Him that bad? Think about every thought you’ve ever had. Every private, secret thought. Now pretend it’s your wedding day. The church is filled to capacity with every friend and family member you can think of. You are going to play a nice little picture slide show of you growing up, so everyone settles comfortably into their seats. But instead of a nice little slide show, up comes a video of all of those secret thoughts instead.
That video is a “tell all”. Every single time you gossiped. Every lustful thought. Some of those thoughts were of people sitting in that very room. Perhaps some were even of a friend’s spouse. You are completely exposed to everyone. Believe me, my friend….you have a sin debt. And every one of those sins MUST be accounted for.
Now I have some good news and some way bad news. Let me give you the bad news first. Most people in this world will pay for their sin debt the HARD WAY. They will pay for it Themselves. In hell.
Now for the good news. The way too good to be true, laughable, Good News. For some, your debt has been paid. In full. Completely covered. Gone. Forgiven. Wiped out. Oh, it’s not just been forgotten about, it’s been paid… by someone ELSE.
”You forgave the iniquity of your people, and covered all their sins.” Psalm 85:2
“Blessed are those whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered.” Romans 4:7
”For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures.” 1 Corinthians 15:3
“Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died– more than that- who was raised to life– is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us.” Romans 8:34
Now I know this whole thing sounds laughably crazy. Especially for an intelligent, well-educated, sophisticated group such as ourselves. That’s the hard part about it. We must BELIEVE. The Bible is very clear that in order for YOUR sins to be covered in full, you must have FAITH. You must have so much faith that it changes your life. Another word for that kind of faith- faith that changes you- is repentance. Ask God to give you such faith. Don’t stop asking until He gives it to you. It’s that important.
”For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes…”
Forever grateful that my debt has been paid, (by Someone Else!)
